What NextShift is

NextShift introduces hospitality workers to employers who need staff. We are not your employer. When you accept a shift, the working arrangement is between you and that employer, and they are responsible for paying you what was agreed and for meeting their obligations as an employer.

Who may use it

You must be 18 or older and legally entitled to work in South Africa. You must give us true information. Creating a profile for someone else, or using someone else's identity documents, will get the account closed.

If you are a worker

  • Only mark yourself available when you actually are.
  • Only accept a shift you intend to work. Confirming is a commitment the employer relies on.
  • If you cannot make it, cancel as early as you can. Cancelling more than 24 hours ahead carries no penalty.
  • Cancelling very late, repeatedly, or not arriving at all, can put your account on hold. How that works, and how to challenge it, is in section 7 of the privacy notice.
  • Turn up on time, dressed as the shift described, and do the work you said you could do.

If you are an employer

  • Post shifts that are real, with accurate times, pay and location.
  • Pay workers what the shift said, when you said you would.
  • Only report a no-show when someone genuinely did not arrive and did not cancel. Reports are reviewed by NextShift and the worker gets to respond. Reporting falsely will cost you access.
  • Worker contact details are given to you for the booking in front of you. Do not use them for anything else, do not add people to marketing lists, and do not pass them on.
  • You remain responsible for your own legal obligations as an employer, including checking right to work. Our verification is a check we have done — it does not transfer your duty to you.

Fees

NextShift is currently free for workers and for employers. If that changes we will tell you before it affects you. NextShift will never charge a worker to be found work.

Reputation information

Completed shifts, attendance and employer feedback build your reputation on NextShift. We may show reputation figures to employers. We will not publish them outside NextShift.

Suspension

We may suspend or close an account that gives false information, abuses other users, misuses contact details, or repeatedly fails to arrive. Where we do, we will tell you why and you may respond.

Our liability

We work hard to describe workers and shifts accurately, but we do not control what happens on a shift. NextShift is not liable for the conduct of an employer or a worker, for unpaid wages, or for loss arising from a shift, except where the law does not allow us to exclude that liability.
